-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which characters can join in with the Event?
Any character can join in this event, providing that they have access to the Factions campaign. As the most of the events activities take place in the Shing Jea Monastery, however Lion's Arch and Kamadan, Jewel of Istan will also be redecorated.
The finale is the feast of the Celestial Rat. It is appearing in Shing Jea. So if you don't have Factions you will miss out on this part of the event.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Which towns have been decorated for the event?
Towns which have been decorated changed included the Shing Jea Monastery, Lion's Arch and Kamadan, Jewel of Istan. Changes include:- Asian-Style Stringed Lanterns
- Fancy Lights
- Dragon Heads have been placed over Archways.

- "Klaatu...barada...nikto!"
- "You are no match for my almighty power."
- "Cross over children. All are welcome. All welcome. Go into the light. There is peace and serenity in the light."
- "You're disgusting, but I love you!"
- Are you the Keymaster?"
- "We must prepare for the coming of Banjo the Clown, God of the Puppets."
- "You are messing with
- "I see dead people"
- "Take me now, subcreature."

Minigames
There are two minigames you can play during the Canthan New Year:
Rollerbeetle Racing Guide - by Feathermoore Rep:
Basic Information:
The Rollerbeetle Racing Arena can be accessed by talking to the Rollerbeetle Trainers in Shing Jea Monastery, Kamadan, Jewel of Istan and Lionās Arch.
Once inside the arena there are many NPCs that you can talk to in regards to Rollerbeetle Racing. The most notable NPCs are:- Kokusai [Beetle Designs] - For 100g, you can change the main design of your beetle. The possible options are:
- Plain
- Racing Stripe
- Flames
- Peace Love and Harmony
- Tiger Stripes
- Wing
- Eyeball.
Note: That this does not change the colour of your beetle. The colour of your beetle is randomly assigned to you when you load into the arena or into a race. The random colours include green, blue, cyan, yellow, purple/pink and red.
- Eldrid the Ancient [Records] - This NPC lists all the daily, monthly, and quarterly records.
- Little Jack [Rewards] - Little Jack is holding prizes for the 100 best Rollerbeetle Racers, to be given out after the festival. The prize is a Miniature Greased Lightning.
- Rollerbeetle Master [Rollerbeetle Racing] - Will transport you back to the last town you entered the arena from.
Rollerbeetle Skills:
Your skill bar is replaced with the fixed skill set below:
1. Rollerbeetle Dash: For 5 seconds you move extremely fast.
2. Harden Shell: For 4 seconds, you cannot be knocked down.
3. Ram: Skill, For 2 seconds, all adjacent foes are knocked down.
4. Distracting Lunge: All of target Rollerbeetle's Skills are temporarily disabled for 5 seconds.
5. Spit Rocks: You spit (3) rocks at target Rollerbeetle. If they hit, that target is knocked down.
6. Rollerbeetle Echo: For 20 seconds, this Skill is replaced with the next skill that you use. Rollerbeetle Echo acts as this skill for 30 seconds.
7. Rollerbeetle Blast: Target Rollerbeetle is knocked down.
8. Super Rollerbeetle: For 10 seconds, you move extremely fast and can not be knocked down.
Skill Notes:- In order to use the skill Spit Rock, you must have line of sight to your target. Otherwise you will get a obstruction message and your attack will missed.
- If you use Rollerbeetle Echo and run over an additional box, there is a slight chance that you may randomly get Echo again. However, Echo will not be refreshed. Also if you have used Echo completely and run over another box or enter a checkpoint, the Echoed skill will not recharge.
Racing Basics:- In the race, you compete against 5 other players until everyone finished or time runs out. There is a set time limit of 3 minutes to complete the race.
- Each player starts out with 600,000 points and the points decrease by 1,000 every second.
- At the start of the race, everyone has the skills Rollerbeetle Dash, Harden Shell, and Ram available. Once these 3 skills have been used, they will not be recharged until the next checkpoint.
- Overall there are 7 check points during the course of the race.
- During the race there are boxes marked with a (?) power-up box. Running over these boxes randomly unlock one of the other 5 skills for a one time use. After the box has been run over, the box will re-spawn approximately a second later.
Race Maps and (?) Box Locations:
The Starting Gates
You cannot use any skills till the race begins. You can however begin moving about to build some initial speed:
Race Path
The Main route is marked in red. The green paths denote alternate paths, usually to a bonus box. The blue bars signify where the path crosses itself:
(?) Box Locations
There are 19 boxes that can be found on the map:
Rewards:- First place receives 7 Lunar Tokens and 7 Gamer Points.
- Second place receives 5 Lunar Tokens and 5 Gamer Points.
- Third place receives 3 Lunar Tokens and 3 Gamer Points.
- Fourth place receives 2 Lunar Tokens and 2 Gamer Points.
- Each other Player will also receive 1 Lunar Token if they reach the end of the track.
- You also earn 50 Balthazar Faction for Consecutive Wins and for Flawless Victories.
Tips and Tricks:- If you roll about around in the starting gate just before the start of the race, this will help generate a small amount of momentum to help your beetle get moving.
- To avoid getting knockdown at the start, put up Harden Shell as soon as you exit, or even a few seconds after.
- Also use Ram or Rollerbeetle Dash combined with Harden Shell, to put yourself in the front.
- Conserve your skills! Don't always use that Dash as soon as it recharges. Sometimes, its better to use your speed boosts at strategic times, like after a knockdown or at the bottom of a hill.
- Be wary of other players. Use the "c" button and "tab" to keep track of people closest to you. These buttons allow you target the other players to see what skills they use. For example, if someone is on your tail, target then to make sure they don't sneak up and use Ram while you don't have Harden Shell up.

---------------------
Rock, Paper, Scissors:
This minigame is only available in Lion's Arch from Lucky Hochei. It's a simply game of Rock, Paper, Scissors.
The is cost to play is: 1 Lunar Token
To play simply click to speak with him and pay 1 Lunar Token, then type either /rock, /paper or /scissors (or /scis).
Rewards:- Win: 1 Lunar Fortune, 1 Sugary Blue Drink.
- Tie: 1 Lunar Token.
- Lose: You are knocked down and receive no item.
- Note: Winning or losing this "game" does not count towards the lucky or unlucky title track.
---------------------
Dragon Arena 6x6 (Dodgeball):
To travel to the Dragon Arena invisible outpost, simply speak to Captain Li Sah in the middle courtyard of Shing Jea Monastery. Captain Li Sah can also be found in the middle circle in the Great Temple of Balthazar too.
In this arena, two randomly formed teams of 6 battle against each other. The first team to reach 20 kills wins.
When you enter a battle in the Dragon Arena, you have 'Spirit of the Festival' on you. This takes your health to 100 and your Armor to 60. All your attributes are set to 0 and you cannot attack.
In the arena every player has the same 8 skills on their skillbar:- Dragon Blast: No cost. Casting time = 1 second. Recharge time = 5 seconds.
Skill. Send out a projectile that kills target foe if it hits.
- Imperial Majesty: No cost. Casting time = 3/4 second. Recharge time = 10 seconds.
Skill. Target touched foe kowtows before you and takes 50 damage. (Target is knocked down and takes damage)
- Trade Winds: No cost. Casting time = 3/4 second. Recharge time = 5 seconds.
Skill. For 10 seconds, you move with the swiftness of the Canthan fleet. (Best guess is +33% speed)
- 5 Resurrection Signets
Luna Silverwood Launches an Dragon Blast attack in the Dragon Arena
General Tactic:
It's Dodgeball. Strafe while under the Trade Winds skill (Speed Boost). Stop just long enough to cast your one-shot kill on a good target. Kiting is the key to success.
Recommended Tactic:
The following is a working tactic for this arena:
The best tactic is to stand back and pick a target, then use Trade Winds to rush in and Dragon Blast them, and run out again. At this point you will be able to resurrect any dead allies, but consider their position. It is easy for an enemy to Dragon Blast the resurrected person before they can do much. Imperial Majesty can be useful when you are close to an enemy. Very often in the Dragon Arena you will experience lag after being hit by Dragon Blast (your death will be delayed by a few seconds but you will be stuck).
Dead players are resurrected at their team's shrine every minute.
Rewards:- You get three Victory Tokens as a reward for winning.
- You also gain 40 Balthazar Faction points per unique kill, as well as 50 Faction points per team win.
- Each five consecutive wins you gain an additional 50 faction.
- 5 points toward the Gamer title track.

Hey RTS! What if I want to donate something to you?
Let me make it clear that I make these guides in my spare time (I have a lot of it ). I make them because I love Guild Wars and enjoy helping out the community.
So if any would like to donate anything has thanks, that is fine.
Let me also make it clear that is is not some sad indirect form of begging or QQing for items.
Some people have asked me if I'll accept tips or donations, and the short answer is yes.

Um, delete this post if needed, but why is this in the Screenshot Expo, instead of Riverside or some other highly used Forum? Screenshots you posted are nice, but I don't see them fitting this forum. Are we supposed to post OUR screenshots of what we did/saw during the festival?

I'm not a Riverside Mod - I build the thread within the Screenshot forum where I am a mod in order to lock it during initial editing phase. Then I move it here.
I'm surprised that's not clear ^_^

Corrected thanks for the feedback Can you PM me directly about any other typos or mistakes? Sure there plenty, I have to build these things in such a short space of time. There was one minor reference to the Pig, changed that to Rat.
I've already requested it to be stickied - after all I'm not a Riverside Mod
I have some notes on 9 Rings at home, I'll add it in later if I have the chance.

We're just "striving for perfection".
Fantastic guide, as always.

Will the gift bags be like Winterday gifts and cause super lag or will they actually just spawn in your invo for a change?

[QUOTE=RTSFirebat]
Chef Tian - Dessert[/B][/U][INDENT]- Truffles - Fungal Wallow - Ecovald Forest
- Ebon Spider Webs - Maguuma Spiders - The Wilds (The Maguuma Jungle)
- Half Eaten Blobs - Bog Skales - North Kryta Provinces and Istan
- Azure Remains - Azure Shadow - Talas Chute
- Icy Lodestones - Ice Golems - Northern Shiverpeaks
The Ebon Spider webs drop from Lava Spitters in the Ring of Fire mission, not Maguuma Spiders. However, the Ebon Spider legs do drop from them. (there is an incongruity in the naming of the items)
Other than that, nice guide!

You mean Ebon spider legs do drop from Maguma Spiders and webs from the lava spitters
PS have they added the chefs yet to confirm these are in fact the same items this year

Great guide to the CNYE08!
I think that I found a little mistake. You said:
"Fehj: A Burning Desire
This quest is mutually exclusive with A Burning Desire."
When you must say (i think):
"Fehj: A Burning Desire
This quest is mutually exclusive with Douse Your Enthusiasm."

How many of each ingredient do the chefs require? Just one? I hear some people saying three? Anyone know for sure?

I read on the Guild Wars website that said if you have more than one mini pig last year, you get something out of it from a special collector. Anyone know what that's about?

Also, on that same note, what mini do we get for handing in the items? Just a rat or like a Nian or something?
